The are hundreds of women in the Tri -County Area living on the street trapped in a cycle of addiction and abuse. Many of these women are victims of neglect, poverty and early childhood sexual and physical abuse. Charleston and North Charleston police made in excess of 325 arrests for prostitution in 2007. Each woman is arrested multiple times per year with an average incarceration of 5 days costing the community thousands of dollars per year.

The Residents
Services are provided and coordinated through the Magdalene House. Screened participants reside on site as they progress through the programs. Since opening , 75% of the women who stay after the introduction period of 30 days, complete the program and graduate. We provide critically needed rehabilitative services for 4-5 women at any given time with the urgent need for additional facilities. There are no other residential outreach facilities of this type in the Charleston area. |
